Blue food featured at packed aquaculture conference
Blue food was one of the sessions during the National Aquaculture Conference 2022, which took place on March 15 and 16 in Strömstad. This year's edition of the conference was fully booked, 150 participants representing all parts of aquaculture Sweden had an opportunity to meet, gain new knowledge and make contacts.
Blue Food was represented by Kristina Snuttan Sundell, Lillemor Lindberg and PhD students John Axelsson, Marica Andersson and Pontus Gunnarsson. The participation of Blå mat was natural given that one of the pillars of the center is primary production, and one of Blå mat's goals is for aquaculture to grow tenfold in volume and species.

"During our session, we presented what Blue Food is, the research conducted and how we collaborate with our external partners," says Snuttan Sundell, Chair of Blue Food. This included co-cultivation of several species, feed and product development with a focus on circular systems, and several participants said that it gave them good insight and that they now better understand what the researchers will contribute.
The conference was the ninth since its inception in 2009 and this time it was fully booked, including a waiting list. The program also included an unusually high number of mingle moments, which was appreciated.
More and more people are realizing that the industry is to be reckoned with, while many are returning participants who have been involved for many years, says Lillemor Lindberg, responsible for business contacts at Blå mat. Then I think it's a Corona effect, it's fun to get together for real!
The conference lasted from lunch to lunch and was followed by study visits. In addition to lectures, "speed talks" and mingling, the participants got to taste seafood in many tasty forms contributed by participating companies, including Blå Mat's partners Nordic Seafarm, Scanfjord, Ostrea, Älvsdalslax, Ten Island Seafarm, Bohus seaculture and Bryggudden.
The National Aquaculture Conference is organized by the National Aquaculture Competence Centre, the Swedish Board of Agriculture, the Rural Network and local organizers at the location where the conference is held. Tentatively, the next national aquaculture conference will be held in 2024 at another exciting location in the country.
