Blue Food receives funding until 2028
The Swedish Research Council Formas has granted continued funding to Blue Food - Centre for future seafood, for another four years. In total, Blue Food will receive SEK 40 million from Formas during the period. The decision also enables strong co-financing from the centre's partners and other financiers. During the second phase, the center will have an increased focus on all three sustainability dimensions.
In its application for continued funding, the consortium at the Swedish Center for Advanced Research on the Environment ( Blue Food )—comprising five universities, two research institutes, a science park, and three industry representatives—has outlined the center’s achievements to date, its plans for the next four years, and how its activities are intended to continue into the 2030s, including through a self-assessment. All of this has been reviewed by Formas’ evaluators with positive results.
In addition to Formas' funding, Blue Food's partners are contributing around SEK 18 million.
During the second phase, the ongoing research at Blue Food will be supplemented with a clearer focus on health, AI and digitalization, economic analyses, and laws and regulations. Blue Food will work toward the vision “…to support increased production, processing, and consumption of innovative, sustainable, and healthy seafood in Sweden through cutting-edge research and knowledge building, as well as collaboration and co-creation with all sectors of society.”
In the second period, the Blue Food consortium gains a new member in the Axfoundation, which has been an active partner during the first four years.
