New report: Climate change impacts on Magallana gigas
Climate change poses both positive and negative risks to Pacific oysters (Magallana gigas). Higher temperatures can increase growth, survival, and reproduction in Sweden, but extreme heat can increase disease. Changes in salinity and pH particularly affect larvae. Indirect effects such as oxygen depletion and changes in food availability increase the risks.
Four measures are recommended: more local research, increased monitoring, the possibility of depth adjustment, and better choice of cultivation sites.
