The Access Forum 2024 - Blue Food organizes theme on aquaculture
In June 2024, The Access Forum 2024 conference will be organized in Sweden. The platform Access - The Academic Collaboration Chile Sweden - is as the name suggests a meeting place with the ambition to strengthen academic relations between Sweden and Chile. In 2022, the first Access Forum was organized in Chile and this time Sweden will be the meeting place for researchers in a variety of disciplines.
Blue Food will co-organize research theme 9 "Sustainable Aquatic Food and Biomaterial Production; Relevance of Aquaculture Diversification" together with Chilean researchers. Kristina Snuttan Sundell, chair of Blue Food, University of Gothenburg, is the Swedish research leader for the theme. SLU and KTH are also involved in Access Forum 2024. Both the three universities and several of Blå Mat's co-financiers and partners may become targets for study visits within the framework of the conference.

Sweden, an emerging aquaculture country, and Chile, a well-established aquaculture country, face similar future challenges for the sustainability of the sector. To achieve this, the key points are diversification of aquaculture both in terms of species, technological innovations and circular economy strategies to improve sustainability. The aim of the thematic workshop is to intensify bilateral work on aquaculture diversification and sustainability, deepen existing collaborations, foster new partnerships, facilitate student exchanges, develop joint research proposals and offer cross-border courses.
