Watch Blue Food's researchers and partners discuss multi-use, algae and herring in Almedalen
During the Almedalen Week 2024, several of Blue Food's researchers and partners participated in seminars coordinated by Östersjödagarna. The seminars are now available on Uppsala University's video platform. Now you can watch the seminars you missed and see the rest.
Offshore wind energy - multi-use
"What are the synergies and opportunities for co-existence of blue food production, increased biodiversity, security and energy at sea? Is it possible to create multiple benefits simultaneously that benefit both people and the environment?"
Participants from Blue Food
- Fredrik Gröndahl, centre director, Blue Food, KTH
- Mattis Bergquist, Head of Sustainability, Coop Sweden
How can we create the conditions for more herring and sprat to be landed for human consumption?
"The regional commercial herring fishery in the Baltic Sea is facing major challenges. At the same time, signals are being sent about how important fishing is in the event of crisis or war. How can we create the necessary conditions to land more herring for consumption?"
Participants from Blue Food
- Mattis Bergquist, Coop
- Krishan Kent, National Seafood Federation
- Vesa Tschernij, Simrishamn Marine Center
- Andreas Pettersson, Gotland County Administrative Board

From shore to soil - how can the use of marine biomass save the Baltic Sea?
"Stinky seaweed on the beach and overgrown bays are a new challenge. Historically, material from the coast has been used as fertilizer for fields and grazing for animals, which also benefited biodiversity. What can we do to ensure that we once again see marine biomass such as reeds and seaweed as a resource and not as a problem?"
Participants from Blue Food
- Fredrik Gröndahl, Center Manager, Blue Food
- Gunilla Rosenqvist, (moderator), Blue Center Gotland
