New report: "Use of risk management tools in primary production of seafood in Sweden"
If the vision of an expanded seafood industry in Sweden is to become a reality, the need to strengthen the capacity for risk management in aquaculture is likely to increase, especially for more inexperienced actors. In a now completed satellite project, researchers at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute found that customers consider the benefits of an existing tool for risk management in aquaculture to be limited. One conclusion is that other methods and tools may be preferable.
The idea of the tested tool is to facilitate systematic identification, analysis and evaluation of environmental risks in Swedish primary seafood production. In the satellite project, two workshops were conducted with primary producers from low-trophic aquaculture and fish farming. Participants considered that in the short term, the tested tool has the greatest value as a training tool or for theoretical practice. In a growing seafood industry with an increased need for risk management support, other methods and tools may be of greater benefit to the industry.
The satellite project was carried out by IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute together with Ostrea Aquaculture AB, Nordic seafarm and Matfiskodlarna.
