Pontus Gunnarsson will defend his dissertation on September 18, 2026
Pontus Gunnarsson, a Blå Mat doctoral student at SLU, will defend his dissertation, “The Colors of the Rainbow Trout: Effects of Feed and Rearing Conditions on Gut Microbial Composition, Metabolism, and Product Quality,” on September 18, 2026.
Pontus Gunnarsson’s project focuses on how alternative, sustainable feeds for farmed fish affect the fish’s health and growth, as well as the quality of the final product. He has investigated how feed based on larvae, mussels, sea squirts, and fungi affects the gut microbiota, biochemical processes in the liver and muscles, and the quality of the fish as food. He has also compared fish from different farms and examined what happens when fish are moved between farms while maintaining the same diet.
The public defense will take place in the Lennart Kennes Hall at SLU’s Ultuna Campus in Uppsala. It will also be possible to follow the public defense remotely.
